NCAA certifies 11 events for exemption

Eleven events recently were certified for exemption during 1998-99 from limits on the maximum number of contests in a sport in which Division I institutions can participate.

The events were certified under the conditions specified in NCAA Bylaw 30.10.

The Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet, acting on recommdations by its Exempted Contests Subcommittee, approved certification of 10 of the events during its February 3-5 meeting in Phoenix. Certification of the 11th event, The First Four women's basketball tournament, was approved June 12-13, 1997, by the former NCAA Special Events Committee.

Basketball

  • The First Four (women's basketball). San Jose Arena, San Jose, California. November 13-15, 1998.

    Golf

  • Hawaii Invitational Women's Cross County Meet (women's cross country). Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course, Honolulu. September 26, 1998.

  • Princeville Rainbow Wahine Classic (women's golf). Princeville Golf Course, Princeville, Hawaii. November 1-3, 1998.

  • Stan Sheriff Golf Classic (men's golf). Makena Golf Course, Makena, Hawaii. November 25-27, 1998.

    Soccer

  • Hawaii Women's Soccer Tournament (women's soccer). Ala Wai Field, Honolulu. September 4-6, 1998.

  • Hawaii Women's Soccer Tournament (women's soccer). Ala Wai Field, Honolulu. September 18-20, 1998.

  • Hawaii Women's Soccer Tournament (women's soccer). Ala Wai Field, Honolulu. October 2-4, 1998.

    Volleyball

  • NACWAA State Farm Women's Volleyball Classic (women's volleyball). University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico. August 28-29, 1998.

  • Nanook Classic (women's volleyball). Patty Center, Fairbanks, Alaska. September 3-5, 1998.

  • Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Women's Volleyball Classic (women's volleyball). Special Events Arena, Honolulu. September 4-6, 1998.
