Kenyon easily wins 19th straight men's swimming and diving crown

Kenyon's winning tradition in the Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships continues after the Lords rolled past the competition to capture their 19th straight title March 19-21 in St. Louis.

The Lords set records in three of the relay events and a record in the 50-yard freestyle event. Overall, Kenyon won 11 events, including the 200-, 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays and the 200 medley relay.

The Lords compiled 726 points. UC San Diego was second with 394, and Denison was third with 3931/2.

Kenyon's Kenneth Heis set the record in the 50-yard freestyle. Teammates Justin Thoms, Darrick Bollinger and Lloyd Baron all tied for second with a time of 20.51.

Wisconsin-Stevens Point won the 400 medley relay title with a record time of 3:20.65. Randy Boelk of Wisconsin-Stevens Point won the 200 backstroke title.

Gary Simon of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps also set a record in his 200-yard medley relay victory. In addition, Simon captured a title in the 200 breaststroke.

Defending 100-yard butterfly champion Matt Johnson of Johns Hopkins repeated as winner in that event with a time of 48.54.

In diving, Jeff Gorton of Kalamazoo won the one-meter competition and John Karpe of Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the three-meter event -- swapping championships from last year. Each finished second in the other event.
