Cal State Bakersfield dominates II swimming

The Cal State Bakersfield men's swim team started fast and never looked back as it captured the Division II men's swimming and diving title in Ashland, Ohio, March 11-14.

The Roadrunners prevailed with 730 points. Drury went home as runner-up with 641 points, and Missouri-Rolla was third with 234.

Cal St. Bakersfield won the 400 freestyle and 400 medley relays, while Drury took first in the other three relay events.

Cal St. Bakersfield also finished 1-2-3 in the 400-yard individual medley, with a winning performance by Chris Breitbart.

Derek Guffey led another 1-2-3 punch for the Roadrunners in the 200 backstroke.

Predrag Stojadinovic of Salem-Teikyo was named swimmer of the year after his winning performances in the 200-, 500- and 1,650- yard freestyle events.

Drury's David Aniot won his fourth consecutive national championship in the 100-yard breaststroke, covering the distance in 55.56.

Aniot also finished first in the 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley. John Berry of Ouachita finished first in both the 50- and 100- yard freestyle events.

Don Steele of Cal State Bakersfield was coach of the year.
