Roster size, tourney dates topics for III volleyball committee

The Division III Women's Volleyball Committee discussed roster sizes and championships dates during its February 2-5 meeting in Palm Springs, California.

The committee agreed to eliminate its squad-size limit but still will allow only 17 individuals on the bench. For example, a team can dress 15 players and have two coaches on the bench, or have 12 players, two coaches, two managers and an athletic trainer.

The committee also voted to conduct the championship regionals on Thursday through Saturday, instead of giving the host institution the option of holding regionals Thursday through Saturday or Friday through Sunday.

Regionals for the 1998 championship will be November 12-14 at on-campus sites.

Quarterfinals will be November 21 and the semifinals and final will be December 4 and 5. Those rounds also will be at on-campus sites.

In another action, the committee agreed to encourage member institutions to experiment with game formats proposed by the National Association for Girls and Women in Sports.
