Eleventh annual student-athlete day being planned
The 11th annual National Student-Athlete Day April 6 again will honor student-athletes who have achieved excellence in the classroom and on the playing field, while making significant contributions to their school or community.
Events celebrating outstanding student-athletes will take place at high-school and college campuses across the country. Student-athletes will receive National Student-Athlete Day Award Certificates honoring their achievements. Last year, more than 158,000 student-athletes were honored nationwide.
In addition, national Giant Steps Award winners will be chosen in conjunction with National Student-Athlete Day. The awards go to individuals who exemplify the ideals of National Student-Athletes Day by balancing athletics, academics and life pursuits. They are given not only to student-athletes but to coaches, parents, administrators and organizations who make it possible for student-athletes to succeed.
National Student-Athlete Day was created by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS) and Northeastern University's Center for the Study of Sport in Society, and is cosponsored with the NCAA.
More information about National Student-Athlete Day Award Certificates or Giant Steps Award nominations can be obtained from Suzi Katz, director of the NCAS Southern Regional Office at the University of Central Florida, at 407/823-3555.
