Committee notices
Nominations are being accepted for the following interim (immediate) vacancies and vacancies with terms beginning September 1, 1998.
Division I
Division I candidates must be nominated by their institution's multisport conference. The Division I Nomination Form and Division I Nominee Information Form must be completed for each nominee. Appointments will be made by the Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet. Nomination materials are to be sent to Julie Quickel, committee coordinator, at the national office (fax 913/339-0035). The deadline for submission of completed forms is March 17, 1998.
Division I Committee on Athletics Certification: Four vacancies. Appointees will replace McKinley Boston Jr., University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; Lee A. McElroy, American University; R. Gerald Turner, Southern Methodist University; and Charles Whitcomb, San Jose State University, not eligible for reappointment. The Division I Management Council has authorized resolictation of nominees for these positions to encourage conferences not previously represented on the committee to forward nominations. The Management Council also hopes to increase the pool of chief executive officers and ethnic-minority candidates. Eligible subdivisions: I-A, I-AA, I-AAA.
Men's and Women's Fencing Committee: One vacancy. Appointee will replace Merry Ormsby, Columbia University-Barnard College, not eligible for reappointment. Appointee must represent women's fencing and must be from the Northeast region. Eligible subdivisions: I-A, I-AA, I-AAA
Division I Field Hockey Committee: One interim vacancy. Appointee will replace Kathleen McNally, formerly of La Salle University, no longer at a Division I institution. Appointee preferably will be from the Mid-Atlantic region, must be an athletics administrator and may not be from Division I-A. Eligible subdivisions: I-AA, I-AAA.
Division I Men's and Women's Golf Committee: One interim vacancy. Appointee will replace James Weaver, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, who resigned from the committee. Appointee must represent men's golf.
Water Polo Committee: One vacancy. Appointee will replace John Loughran, Loyola Marymount University, not eligible for reappointment. Appointee may be from the East or West region and must be an athletics administrator from Division I-AAA. Eligible subdivision: I-AAA.
Division II
Division II individuals may be nominated by peers. Self nominations also are accepted in Division II. A Division II Nomination Form and Division II Nominee Information Form must be completed for each nominee. Nomination materials are to be sent to Julie Quickel, committee coordinator, at the national office (fax 913/339-0035). The deadline for submission of completed forms is March 17, 1998.
Divisions II and III Women's Golf Committee: One interim vacancy. Appointee will replace Julie Garner, formerly of Rollins College, no longer at a Division II institution. Appointee preferably will be from the West golf district and must be an athletics administrator.
Division II Women's Soccer Committee: One interim vacancy. Appointee will replace Linda Hackett, Bryant College, who resigned from the committee. The appointee must be an athletics administrator, preferably from the Northeast or New England region.
Division II Women's Softball Committee: One vacancy. Appointee will replace Linda Wooster, Quinnipiac College, not eligible for reappointment. Appointee preferably will be from the Northeast region.
Women's Softball Rules Committee: One vacancy. Appointee will replace Lori Meyer, Mankato State University, not eligible for reappointment. Appointee must be an athletics administrator.
Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Committee: One vacancy. Appointee will replace Frances Nee, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, not eligible for reappointment. The appointee must represent men's swimming interests and must be an athletics administrator.
Division II Men's and Women's Tennis Committee: Four vacancies (including two interim vacancies).
One immediate appointee will replace Andreas Koth, Armstrong Atlantic State University, who resigned from the committee; one immediate appointee will fill an additional position created on the committee with the adoption of 1998 Convention Proposal No. 19. Both immediate appointees must be athletics administrators who represent women's tennis. One must be from the South region and one from the West region. At least one of the immediate appointees must be female.
Beginning September 1998, two appointees will replace Burton Reece, Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, and Donna Arnold, Presbyterian College, not eligible for reappointment. One of the appointees must represent men's tennis and be from the East region. The other appointee must represent women's tennis and be from the East region. One of the two appointees must be female and one must be an athletics administrator.
Division II Women's Volleyball Committee: One vacancy. Appointee will replace Peggy Martin, Central Missouri State University, not eligible for reappointment. Due to regional realignment, the Nominating Committee agreed to reopen nominations for this vacancy. Appointee must be from the South Central region.
Water Polo Committee: One vacancy. Appointee will replace a Division I member so that Division II may be represented on the committee. The appointee may be from either the East or West region and preferably will be an athletics administrator.
