Downtown hotel space reduced
Several factors have contributed to an unusually large number of Convention delegates being housed away from the general vicinity of the headquarters hotels.
Convention manager Louis J. Spry said that the Radisson Hotel Atlanta committed to making 300 rooms available but supplied only about half that number. The guests who were displaced were relocated at properties near the Atlanta airport.
In addition, an unusually large number of delegates missed the cutoff date for reservations. Because all downtown hotels are full, those delegates also were assigned lodging near the airport. In all, about 250 NCAA delegates will have airport hotel lodging.
Delegates staying near the airport may reach downtown via taxi or by taking a shuttle to a nearby MARTA station and taking the subway to Peachtree Center.
