Kansas City's Women's Final Four plans right on schedule
The Division I Women's Basketball Committee heard reports from the local organizing committee for the 1998 Women's Final Four during its October 21-23 meeting in Kansas City, Missouri.
Reports from the Kansas City Organizing Committee show that plans and preparations are running according to schedule.
The committee developed a schedule for an autograph session that will be held at the open Thursday practice March 26. Thirty-minute autograph sessions for each of the teams in the Women's Final Four will be held beginning at 11:45 a.m. and concluding at 2:45 p.m.
In other action, the committee received a report from the basketball marketing subcommittee, which prompted a discussion on increasing attendance at first- and second-round and regional games.

Met with representatives of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and discussed recognizing coaches of the 64 tournament teams at the Women's Final Four. The committee plans to explore the concept further at its summer meeting, then implement the plan at the 1999 Women's Final Four.
Heard a presentation by William S. Saum, NCAA enforcement representative, on gambling issues as they relate to women's basketball.
Recommended to the Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet that legislation regarding the composition of the nine-member basketball committee be amended to specify that there shall be two representatives from each region and one at-large member.
Supported the concept of conducting first- and second-round sessions of the championship at predetermined sites at some point in the future, and agreed to review research in this regard and further develop the concept during the next year.
