Basketball officiating clinics available via live video conference
For the 13th year, regional officiating clinics administered by the NCAA will be conducted in October, and for the fourth year, Division I head coaches will be allowed to view the clinic via a live video conference.
Head coaches may view the video conference October 22 in lieu of attending one of the regional clinics. If a school's head coach does not view the live video conference, a member of the school's full-time basketball coaching staff must attend one of the regional clinics.
The men's video conference will be conducted from 9 to 11 a.m. (Central time). The women's conference will follow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The clinics can be downlinked from a satellite dish using the following coordinates: Galaxy 9, Transponder 2 (Horizontal, Downlink Frequency 3740).
The video conference also is available (but not mandatory) for Divisions II and III head coaches, members of the media and sports information directors. Viewers may ask questions of the clinicians by dialing 913/661-9158. To receive assistance if experiencing a problem with transmission of the conference, the following telephone numbers should be used: 816/453-0020, 4650 or 6015.
The women's clinics and video conference will be conducted by Marcy Weston, secretary-rules editor of the NCAA Women's Basketball Rules Committee and national coordinator of women's basketball officiating.
The men's clinics and video conference will be conducted by Hank Nichols, national coordinator of men's basketball officiating, and Edward Bilik, secretary-rules editor of the NCAA Men's Basketball Rules Committee.
All Division I supervisors of officials and officials are required to attend one of the 1997 clinics.
