Divisions solicit nominations for committees in '98
Nominations are now being accepted for vacancies that will occur in September 1998 on Divisions I and II general committees and Divisions I, II and III sports committees, as well as Association-wide and common committees.
A total of 121 vacancies are anticipated on NCAA committees in September 1998, including 83 vacancies on division-specific committees and 38 vacancies on Association-wide and common committees.
Each divisions' nominees for division-specific and Association-wide and common committees will be considered through the processes that have been established in each division for filling committee vacancies.
Information about each division's process, as well as information about specific committee vacancies, follows.
Division I
A total of 43 vacancies will be filled on Division I-specific general and sports committees.
Nominations will be accepted only from the 30 conferences represented in the governance structure (the conferences are listed in Constitution 4.2.1 of the 1997-98 NCAA Division I Manual).
Conferences must submit two completed forms for each nominee: the Division I Nomination Form and the Division I Nominee Information Form. Completed forms must be submitted by the end of business December 5, 1997.
Information will be compiled and forwarded to the appropriate appointing bodies in Division I. It is anticipated that vacancies with terms that begin September 1998 will be filled by the end of April 1998.
If an individual is eligible for re-election, the individual's conference must submit the Division I Nomination Form to confirm the conference's support of the re-election. It is not necessary to complete the Division I Nominee Information Form for individuals eligible for re-election. Re-election is not guaranteed but is at the discretion of the appointing body.
Nomination materials that have been submitted for nominees since January 1, 1997, remain available for review; therefore, there is no need to resubmit those materials.
