II women's tourney site selected for '98

Basketball committee selects first predetermined locale for Elite Eight

The NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee has selected Pine Bluff, Arkansas, as the site for the 1998 Division II Women's Basketball Championship.

The Elite Eight will be held in the Pine Bluff Convention Center March 18, 19 and 21, 1998. This three-day event encompasses the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship game of the Division II Women's Basketball Championship. The University of Arkansas, Monticello, will serve as host.

"The committee was very impressed with the total package offered by the Pine Bluff community, especially the people," said Peggy L. Green of Fayetteville State University, chair of the Division II Women's Basketball Committee. "Not only are they providing an excellent facility, but the geographic location and outstanding local accommodations will really serve to enhance the Elite Eight championship experience."

This will mark the first time a predetermined site has been selected for this event. Prior to the 1998 championship, Elite Eight games were hosted by one of the participating institutions.
