NCAA's Marchiony selected as basketball media director
James A. Marchiony, NCAA director of broadcast services since 1993, has accepted a new position within the Association as director of Division I Men's Basketball Championships-Media.
He will assume his new duties September 22.
In his new position, Marchiony will oversee all
media coordination and credentials for the men's Final Four, responsibilities that previously were handled by David E. Cawood. Cawood has accepted a position with Host Communications, Inc.
Marchiony joined the NCAA staff in November 1984. He served as director of communications and was primarily responsible for NCAA media relations.
As director of broadcast services, Marchiony has been responsible for supervising NCAA Productions' telecasts of selected NCAA championships and for producing NCAA public service announcements and promotional spots.
He also has served as staff liaison to the NCAA Communications and Honors Committees and to national and regional television networks. In recent years, he also has administered the NCAA honors dinner.
Marchiony is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University. Before joining the Association, he spent four years as sports information director and another four years as regional director of development for Georgetown University.
