Committee notices
Nominations are being solicited for committee vacancies in Divisions I, II and III, as follows:
Division I
Division I conferences are invited to submit nominations for the following interim committee vacancies or vacancies occurring September 1, 1997. Conferences should submit for each nominee the Nomination Form and Nominee Information Form faxed August 15 to Division I conference commissioners. The completed forms must be received by Julie Quickel, committee coordinator, in the NCAA national office by the close of business September 5 (fax 913/339-0035). Nominations will be compiled by Quickel after that date and submitted to the appropriate appointing body in the Division I governance structure. Eligible subdivisions are indicated in the following listings; an individual nominee's subdivision is determined by the subdivision classification of the conference that represents the nominee's institution in the governance structure.
Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse Committee: Additional nominations are being solicited for one Division I vacancy (interim appointment). Appointee will replace Marnie W. Swift, formerly at the University of Toledo, no longer at a member institution. Appointee must represent Division I-A.
Division I Men's and Women's Golf Committee: Two vacancies (new positions). Appointees must represent women's golf interests. One appointee preferably will be from the Midwest golf district and one preferably from either the West or Far West district. Appointees must be from Division I-AA or I-AAA.
Division I Women's Softball Committee: One vacancy (interim appointment). Appointee will replace Robyn Sharp, formerly at Oregon State University, no longer at a member institution. Appointee preferably will be from the Pacific softball region. Appointee must be from Division I-AA or I-AAA.
Division I Men's and Women's Tennis Committee: One vacancy (interim appointment). Appointee will replace John Kries, formerly at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, no longer at a member institution. Appointee must be from tennis Region 3, 5 or 6. Appointee must be from Division I-AA or I-AAA.
Men's and Women's Fencing Committee: One vacancy. Appointee must represent men's fencing. Appointee must be from the Midwest fencing region. Appointee must be from Division I-AA or I-AAA.
Men's Gymnastics Committee: Two vacancies. One appointee must be from the West region. Appointees can be from Division I-A, I-AA or I-AAA.
Women's Gymnastics Committee: One vacancy (interim appointment). Appointee will replace Marie Tuite, University of Washington, resigned from the committee. Appointee preferably will be from the West gymnastics region and must be an athletics administrator. Appointee can be from Division I-A, I-AA or I-AAA.
Women's Lacrosse Committee: One vacancy (new position). Appointee preferably will be from the Northeast region. Appointee must be from Division I-A or I-AAA.
Men's Volleyball Committee: One vacancy (interim appointment). Appointee will replace Bud Haidet, University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, which no longer sponsors men's volleyball. Appointee preferably will be from the Midwest volleyball region and must be an athletics administrator. Appointee can be from Division
I-A, I-AA or I-AAA.
Division II
Division II institutions are invited to submit nominations for the following committee vacancies. Both a written nomination and a completed Nominee Information Form (which can be obtained from Julie Quickel, NCAA committee coordinator) must be received at the national office by the close of business September 12, 1997 (fax number 913/339-0035). Self-nominations are encouraged, as well as nominations by peers. Individuals who have submitted a Nominee Information Form within the past nine months do not need to submit another form.
Division II Academic Requirements Committee: One vacancy. Appointee will replace Rodney C. Kelchner, Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, who resigned from the committee.
Division II Committee on Infractions: One vacancy. Appointee will replace Jody Mooradian, formerly at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, no longer at a Division II institution.
Divisions II and III Women's Golf Committee: One Division II vacancy. Appointee cannot be from the Midwest golf region.
Division II Women's Soccer Committee: One vacancy. Appointee preferably will be from the West soccer region.
Division III
Division III institutions are invited to submit nominations for the following committee vacancies. Written nominations to fill the vacancies must be received by Julie Quickel, committee coordinator, in the NCAA national office by the close of business September 17, 1997 (fax 913/339-0035). Self-nominations are encouraged, as well as nominations by peers. Nominees will receive an information form, which must be returned by September 24.
Division III Management Council: Division III is resoliciting nominations for the Management Council, specifically to increase the pools of minorities, women, chief executive officers and faculty athletics representatives, as well as the pool of individuals representing Region 4. The following conferences currently are represented on the Management Council or have representatives that are rotating off the Management Council, and therefore are ineligible to submit nominations at this time: Centennial, Constitution Athletic, Little East, Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic, Middle Atlantic States, Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic, New England Small College Athletic, North Coast Athletic, Ohio Athletic, Old Dominion Athletic, Pennsylvania Athletic, Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic, State University of New York Athletic and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conferences; College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin; New England Women's Eight; and University Athletic Association.
Men's and Women's Skiing Committee: One Division III vacancy. Appointee preferably will be from the West skiing region.
Division III Women's Soccer Committee: One vacancy (interim appointment). Appointee will replace Mike Russ, formerly at Messiah College, no longer at a member institution. Appointee must be from the Mid-Atlantic region but cannot be from the Middle Atlantic States Conference.
Division III Women's Softball Committee: Three vacancies. One appointee each will be named from the Atlantic, New England and West regions. Two of the appointees must be athletics administrators who do not coach women's softball.
Division III Women's Volleyball Committee: One vacancy (interim appointment). Appointee will replace Tina Hill, formerly at Elizabethtown College, which is no longer in the Middle Atlantic volleyball region. Appointee must be from the Middle Atlantic region but cannot be from the Middle Atlantic States Conference. Appointee must be an athletics administrator who does not coach women's volleyball.
