Cawood leaves NCAA for Host Communications
NCAA Assistant Executive Director David E. Cawood, a member of the national office staff since 1974, will leave the Association in September to join Host Communications Inc. (HCI) as senior vice-president.
Cawood will work with an HCI affiliate, Universal Sports America's University Division. He will also work on HCI's initiatives with Total Campus Marketing, on new university prospects and will help advise the company's college sports publications business.
"I am confident that the experiences that I have gained working on campus and at the NCAA will permit me to make positive contributions to this progressive team (at Host)," Cawood said.
Cawood joined the NCAA as director of public relations, serving in that capacity from 1974 to 1983, when he became assistant executive director.
During that time, he has served as the primary NCAA liaison with national television networks and cable systems and has worked closely with the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee.
Cawood also was instrumental in the development of the Association's corporate partner program and has served as executive producer for NCAA Productions.
Before joining the NCAA, Cawood had served as sports information director between 1965 and 1974 at five institutions: Morehead State University, Eastern Kentucky University, Baylor University, Southern Methodist University and the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville
Cawood is the youngest individual ever inducted into the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA) Hall of Fame (June 1980), and he recently received the CoSIDA's Arch Ward Award (July 1997), given to those who have made outstanding contributions to the field of college sports information.
