Committee selects Women's Final Four sites for 2001, 2002
The NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee has selected St. Louis and San Antonio as the sites it will recommend for the 2001 and 2002 NCAA Women's Final Fours, respectively.
The NCAA Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet will be asked to approve the recommendations at its fall meeting.
St. Louis, the recommended site for the 2001 Women's Final Four, will be a first-time site. The Kiel Center has a capacity of 20,000. The Missouri Valley Conference will serve as host for the March 30 and April 1 event.
The Women's Final Four will go to San Antonio for the first time in 2002. The Alamodome will be configured for a capacity of 26,000. The host institution will be the University of Texas at San Antonio, and the dates of competition are March 29 and 31.
Other sites considered were the RCA Dome in Indianapolis; the Nashville Arena in Nashville, Tennessee; and the Ice Palace in Tampa, Florida.
The 1998 Women's Final Four will be held in Kemper Arena, Kansas City, Missouri. The 1999 Women's Final Four goes west to the San Jose Arena in San Jose, California, and the 2000 Women's Final Four will be held in The CoreStates Center, Philadelphia.
