I soccer issues reprimand to St. John's (New York) men's coach
Verbal abuse of official during I men's tournament games is cited by subcommittee
The Division I subcommittee of the NCAA Men's Soccer Committee has reprimanded Dave Masur, St. John's University (New York) head men's soccer coach, for inappropriate behavior toward a game official during the 1996 Division I Men's Soccer Championship.
Specifically, Masur verbally abused an official, using profanity during the semifinal and championship games. The Division I subcommittee has issued a public reprimand of Masur and has withheld transportation and per diem payment to St. John's for Masur's participation in the championship game.
"The committee was disappointed in Mr. Masur's behavior. Our coaches have a responsibility to conduct themselves appropriately at all times," said Jonathan B. LeCrone, chair of the Men's Soccer Committee. "We want to emphasize that unsporting behavior has no place in NCAA championships competition."
