Twenty-one more summer basketball leagues certified
Another 21 summer basketball leagues have been certified by the Association for 1997 competition.
The summer leagues include 13 for men and eight for women.
Student-athletes from NCAA institutions participate each summer in hundreds of leagues certified in accordance with NCAA Bylaws 14.7.5.2 and 30.15.
Other certified summer basketball leagues were listed in the May 12 issue of The NCAA News.
Questions about the application process or requirements for NCAA certification should be directed to David J. Thurkill, NCAA legislative assistant, at the national office.
Following are the leagues approved most recently for participation.
Men
California -- SAY NO Basketball Classic, Los Angeles; Drake Summer League, San Anselmo.
Illinois -- Men's Summer Open Basketball League, Belleville.
Massachusetts -- Staples Beantown Pro-Am League, Chestnut Hill.
Mississippi -- Coca-Cola/The Family Y NCAA Basketball League, Hattiesburg.
New Jersey -- Princeton Recreation Department Adult Basketball League, Princeton.
North Carolina -- Elizabeth City Parks and Recreation Summer League, Elizabeth City.
Oklahoma -- Champions' NCAA League, Tulsa.
Oregon -- Portland Excel, Portland.
Pennsylvania -- Central Blair Recreation and Park Commission Men's Summer Basketball League, Altoona; Carbondale YMCA Summer Basketball League, Carbondale.
Texas -- Larry Johnson College Basketball League, Dallas.
Vermont -- Colchester Summer Basketball League, Colchester.
Women
California -- SAY NO Basketball Classic, Los Angeles.
Georgia -- Metro-Atlanta Women's Summer Basketball League, Atlanta.
Oklahoma -- Champions' NCAA League, Tulsa.
Pennsylvania -- Central Blair Recreation and Park Commission Women's Summer Basketball League, Altoona; West Reading Women's League, Reading.
Texas -- Women's Basketball League, Edinburg.
