Membership, terms established for Division I cabinets
The membership and the terms for the four Division I cabinets have been announced.
The first meetings of the cabinets will take place later this month. The Business/Finance Cabinet -- chaired by Gary A. Cunningham, athletics director at the University of California, Santa Barbara -- will meet May 19-20 in Dallas. The Championships/Competition Cabinet (chaired by Christopher Hill, athletics director at the University of Utah) will be next with a May 23 meeting in Chicago.
The Academic/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet has scheduled a June 3-4 meeting in Philadelphia. That committee is chaired by David B. Knight, faculty athletics representative at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
The first meeting of the Strategic Planning Cabinet, chaired by Harold P. Menninger, athletics director at Mount St. Mary's College (Maryland), has not been determined.
Terms
The charter members of the cabinets will not be eligible for re-selection. The terms have been staggered so that approximately 40 percent will expire in September 1999, 30 percent in September 2000 and 30 percent in September 2001.
Membership on cabinets reflects the administrators' expertise. For example, the Academic/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet has a higher ratio of faculty representatives than the Championships/Competition Cabinet, which is made up primarily of athletics directors and conference office administrators.
