Lacrosse committee sanctions institution

The NCAA Men's Lacrosse Committee has determined that Ohio Wesleyan University shall not host a contest during the 1997 and 1998 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship.

The sanction comes as a result of the university's actions during the 1995 and 1996 championships. The committee determined that the university showed a lack of administrative oversight during the championships, and that this had a negative effect on the visiting teams and the conduct of the championship.

"The committee recognizes that institutions have a wide range of responsibilities while hosting a contest during an NCAA championship," said John C. Parry, chair of the committee and director of athletics at Butler University. "It is the committee's feeling, though, that the university did not provide accurate data that is critical when evaluating facilities and determining which team shall host a tournament game. In both years, 1995 and 1996, the committee learned after selecting Ohio Wesleyan to serve as a host that facility conflicts existed."
