Additional nominations sought for III committees
Additional nominations are being sought for positions on several Division III sports committees.
More than 330 nominations were received in response to an earlier solicitation for Division III general and sports committees, but those nominations lacked ethnic minorities and individuals from independent institutions. The Division III Nominating Committee, which met March 13-14 in Atlanta, is attempting to build an effective nominations database for future use, so it is encouraging Division III members to submit nominations of individuals from all Division III institutions.
Additional nominations are sought for the following committees:
Women's Basketball: One administrator from the West region.
Field Hockey: Three administrators, one each from the Great Lakes, New England East and New England West regions.
Women's Lacrosse: Two representatives, one each from the Central and North Regions. One must be an administrator.
Men's Soccer: Two representatives, one each from the Northeast and South Central regions. One must be an administrator.
Men's and Women's Tennis: Two representatives of men's tennis interests, one each from the Midwest and South regions. One must be an administrator.
Women's volleyball: One administrator from the Central region. The individual may not be from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Track and Field: One female representative from the West region, preferably a track coach.
Wrestling: One administrator from District 6, 7 or 8.
An individual with administrative responsibilities who also coaches in the same sport as the sports committee will be considered a coach in this context. For instance, in the case of the Division III Women's Basketball Committee, a vacancy exists for an administrator. If a nominee were both a women's basketball coach and a director of athletics, that person would be considered a coach and thus not eligible to fill the position. However, if the individual were an athletics director and coach of another sport, that person would be considered an administrator and therefore eligible.
Written nominations must be received by Julie Quickel, committee and scholarship coordinator, at the NCAA national office by the close of business April 4, 1997. The fax number is 913/339-0035. The deadline to return nominee information forms is April 11. The Nominating Committee will meet April 28-29 to finalize all sports committee appointments.
