III soccer recommends eight-region format for championship
The Division III subcommittee of the NCAA Women's Soccer Committee has formulated a recommendation to the NCAA Executive Committee to establish eight regions for selection purposes for the 1997 Division III Women's Soccer Championship.
The subcommittee developed the recommendation during its annual meeting February 4-7 in Tucson, Arizona.
Following are the schools in the newly aligned Metro, Mid-Atlantic and New England regions that will be considered by the Executive Committee in May. The Central, Great Lakes, West, New York and South regions will remain unchanged.
Metro region -- The states of Connecticut and Rhode Island and the following institutions: Amherst, Centenary (New Jersey), Drew, Elms, Fairleigh Dickinson-Madison, Jersey City State, Kean, King's (Pennsylvania), Misericordia, Montclair State, Mount Holyoke, New Jersey Institute of Technology, North Adams State, Ramapo, Scranton, Smith, Springfield, St. Elizabeth, Stevens Tech, Western New England, Westfield State, Wilkes, William Paterson and Williams.
Mid-Atlantic region -- Albright, Allentown, Beaver, Bryn Mawr, Cabrini, Catholic, College of New Jersey, Delaware Valley, Dickinson, Eastern, Elizabethtown, Franklin & Marshall, Frostburg State, Gettysburg, Goucher, Haverford, Hood, Johns Hopkins, Juniata, Lebanon Valley, Lycoming, Messiah, Moravian, Muhlenberg, Notre Dame (Maryland), Richard Stockton, Rowan, Salisbury State, St. Mary's (Maryland), Susquehanna, Swarthmore, Trinity (District of Columbia), Ursinus, Villa Julie, Wesley, Western Maryland, Widener and York (Pennsylvania).
