1997 NCAA Convention Proposal No. 2
Permissible recruiters -- parent or legal guardian of prospect
NCAA Divisions I and II should note that with the adoption of 1997 Convention Proposal No. 2 (effective August 1, 1997), a coaching staff member who is the parent or legal guardian of a prospect may observe any activity (e.g., practices, contests, camps) involving that prospect.

Printed recruiting materials -- student-athlete handbook -- NCAA Divisions I and II
NCAA Divisions I and II institutions should note that with the adoption of 1997 Convention Proposal No. 107 (effective August 1, 1997), an institution is permitted to send to a prospective student-athlete a student-athlete handbook, provided the prospect has either signed a national letter of intent or has been accepted for enrollment at that institution.
1997 NCAA Convention Proposal No. 112
Unofficial visit -- admissions event
NCAA Division I institutions should note that with the adoption of 1997 Convention Proposal No. 112 (effective August 1, 1997), it is permissible in sports other than football and men's and women's basketball to permit a prospect during an unofficial visit to receive a meal as part of an "open house" admissions department event and to have on-campus contacts with coaching staff members during the event.

Visit unrelated to recruitment -- National Student-Athlete Day
NCAA institutions should note that with the adoption of 1997 Convention Proposal No. 113 (effective August 1, 1997), the limitations on providing entertainment to a prospect do not apply to a visit to an institution's campus for activities related to National Student-Athlete Day.
1997 NCAA Convention Proposal No. 115
Try-out exception -- golf and tennis
NCAA Division II institutions should note that with the adoption of 1997 Convention Proposal No. 115 (effective August 1, 1997), an institution's golf or tennis coach may teach private golf or tennis lessons to a prospect provided the following conditions are met:
a. The coach makes lessons available to the general public;
b. The prospect resides within a 100-mile radius of the institution's main campus;
c. Fees charged to the prospect are at a rate commensurate with fees charged to all individuals;
d. Prior written approval is received annually from the institution's chief executive officer;
e. Fees of the prospect are not paid by individuals or entities other than the prospect's parents or legal guardian(s); and
f. The institution keeps on file in the office of the director of athletics documentation of the fee charged for the private lessons and the name of any individual receiving any portion of the fee.
