Qualifier allocations list for III wrestling corrected
The list of qualifier allocations for the Division III Wrestling Championships listed on page 15 of the 1997 Wrestling Championships Handbook is incorrect and should be disregarded.
The formula that was adopted by the NCAA Wrestling Committee for determining allocations consists of the following: (1) 75 percent consideration given to team's performance in past three national championships; (2) 15 percent consideration given to participation at the qualifying tournaments for the past three years; and (3) 10 percent based upon the number of teams that have had at least six wrestlers competing in the conference or regional qualifying tournament for the past three years.
In addition, no team may qualify more than 10 individuals.
In the handbook copy, the participation and sponsorship portion of the formula had not been adjusted. As a result, the 1994, 1995 and 1996 participation and sponsorship figures were recalculated. The formula was rerun applying the correct and current data and the following adjustments were made:
Qualifier -- Old -- New
East Regional -- 17 -- 17
Empire Conference -- 26 -- 26
Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference -- 27 -- 26
Metropolitan Wrestling Conference -- 20 -- 18
Midwest College Collegiate Athletic Conference -- 11 -- 11
Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference -- 18 -- 18
New England College Conference Wrestling Association -- 21 -- 22
Ohio Athletic Conference -- 17 -- 17
West Regional -- 19 -- 21
Wisconsin State University Conference -- 24 -- 24
