Committee notices
Committee changes
The following changes, corrections and additions have been made in committee listings in the 1996-97 NCAA Directory. Changes are effective immediately unless otherwise noted.
Council-appointed committees
Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports: The title M.D. should be included after the names of the following individuals, inasmuch as they all are doctors of medicine: Nicolas J. Cassisi, M.D., University of Florida; Gary Alan Green, M.D., University of California, Los Angeles; Letha Y. Griffin, M.D., Georgia State University; and Bryan W. Smith, M.D., University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Interpretations Committee: Michael J. Kovalchik, director of athletics, Hillsdale College, appointed to replace Robert N. Evers, no longer at New Mexico Highlands University.
National Youth Sports Program Committee: Michael F. Alden, formerly at the University of New Mexico, now director of athletics at Southwest Texas State University.
Also, note that Brenda L. Edmond, Southern University, Baton Rouge, still is a member of the committee. She was replaced as chair earlier this year but continues to serve on the committee until her term expires September 1, 1997.
Sports committees
Division II Men's Basketball Committee: Donald C. Landry, commissioner, Sunshine State Conference, appointed to replace Marvin Vanover, commissioner, Peach Belt Conference, resigned because of regional realignment.
Division I-AA Football Committee: R. Daniel Beebe, commissioner, Ohio Valley Conference, appointed to replace Michael D. Strickland, formerly at Murray State University, resigned from committee because he no longer is at a Division I-AA institution.
Women's Rowing Committee: Bebe Bryans, women's rowing coach, Georgetown University, appointed to replace Chris Lange, formerly at Syracuse University, no longer at a member institution.
Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee: Michael L. Johnson, director, track and field and cross country, appointed to replace Marshall Bell, University of Southern Mississippi, resigned from the committee.
Special committees
Division I Transition Board of Directors: James E. Halligan, Oklahoma State University, replaced Charles A. Kiesler, University of Missouri, Columbia.
Division I Transition Management Council: Edward "Ted" Leland, Stanford University, replaced Robert H. Aronson, University of Washington, as the Pacific-10 Conference representative.
Richard A. McDuffie, Southeast Missouri State University, replaced Michael D. Strickland, formerly at Murray State University, as the Ohio Valley Conference representative.
Division II Management Council Transition Team: Thomas R. Shirley Jr., director of athletics, Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, selected to replace Christopher Bledsoe, Pace University, as the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference representative, effective November 1, 1996.
Lynn L. Dorn, North Dakota State University, chairs the Division II Management Council Transition Team.
