Kuipers named to Commission; presidents seek nominations in III
Judith L. Kuipers, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Division III subcommittee of the NCAA Presidents Commission.
Also, the Division III subcommittee on nominations is accepting nominations for two members of the new Division III Presidents Council, which comes into being in August 1997. The new members will fill vacancies left by the expiration of the terms of current members David G. Carter, president of Eastern Connecticut State University, and Michele Tolela Myers, president of Denison University.
Kuipers fills the Region IV vacancy left by the resignation of John B. Slaughter, president of Occidental College. Her term will expire in January 1999.
Nominations must be received at the national office by Monday, December 2. After nominations are reviewed, a ballot will be mailed to all Division III chief executive officers to elect the new Presidents Council members.
For the two upcoming vacancies, the nominations subcommittee has nominated John DiBiaggio, president of Tufts University, and Ann H. Die, president of Hendrix College, but is accepting nominations from the Division III membership.
An individual must be nominated by at least 10 chief executive officers from Division III in order for his or her name to be placed on the ballot. At least one of the new members must be a woman to fulfill the legislative requirement that at least three members of the Presidents Council be female.
Nominations should be submitted to Daniel T. Dutcher, chief of staff for Division III, or Marybeth Ruskamp, assistant chief of staff, at the NCAA national office.
To save time, Division III CEOs are encouraged to submit nominations by fax (913/339-0033) or e-mail (ddutcher@ncaa.org or mruskamp@ncaa.org).
It is anticipated that the new Presidents Council members will be selected by the end of December.
The current Division III subcommittee of the Presidents Commission will become the Division III Presidents Council when restructuring takes effect in August.
