Existing legislation relevant to health and safety issues

With the assistance of the NCAA legislative services group, the committee reviewed existing legislation that was indirectly or directly related to student-athlete health and safety. The committee will continue to review jointly review existing legislation relevant to health and safety with the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Recommendation: The Legislative Review Committee or future entity responsible for referring legislation to Council-appointed committees should be directed to refer any proposed legislation that has any health and safety ramifications to the competitive-safeguards committee for review and comment. The committee is particularly interested in reviewing future legislation involving creation or expansion of out-of-season practice opportunities for consideration of appropriate medical coverage of such activities.
