Conference USA's Weare joins Council
Brenda Weare, associate commissioner of Conference USA, has been appointed as that league's representative to the NCAA Council.
Conference USA is the Association's newest Division I-A conference and is thus entitled to representation on the Council. Weare fills a position that previously was designated for an at-large member and was held by former Tulane University athletics director Kevin M. White, who resigned from the Council upon his selection as athletics director at Arizona State University.
Weare is the senior woman administrator at Conference USA. She is responsible for championships administration, compliance and the league's sports committees and serves as the conference's academic liaison.
She served on the staff of the Great Midwest Conference before members of that league joined with schools from the Metropolitan Collegiate Athletic Conference to form Conference USA.
Before joining the Great Midwest staff, Weare served as an NCAA compliance representative.
She also served from 1984 to 1988 as athletics director at Mundelein College in Chicago.
A 1980 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Weare was a member of the university's women's volleyball team for four years and played women's basketball for one season.
She earned a master's degree in athletics administration in 1984 at the University of Iowa.
