Committee notices

Member institutions are invited to submit nominations to fill interim vacancies on NCAA committees. Written nominations to fill the following vacancy must be received by Fannie B. Vaughan, executive assistant, in the NCAA national office no later than September 16, 1996 (fax number 913/339-0035).

Division III Women's Basketball Committee: Replacement for Charles Goffnett, Alma College, resigned from the committee. Appointee must be from the Division III Mid-Atlantic region of women's basketball.

Committee changes

The following changes, corrections and additions have been made to information in the 1996 NCAA Committee Handbook. The handbook is the official source of information about NCAA committees until October 1996, when the 1996-97 NCAA Directory will be published. Changes are effective immediately unless otherwise noted.

Council-appointed committees

Two-Year College Relations Committee: Britton B. Banowsky, Big 12 Conference, appointed effective September 1, 1996, replacing John C. Jessell, Indiana State University, declined appointment.

Sports committees

Division I Baseball Committee: Paul Fernandes, Columbia University, appointed to succeed Frederick J. Hill, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, effective September 1, 1996, inasmuch as Hill declined re-election.

John Easterbrook, California State University, Fullerton, appointed effective September 1, 1996, to replace David P. O'Brien, Long Beach State University, inasmuch as O'Brien declined the appointment.

Division II Women's Basketball Committee: Peggy Green, Fayetteville State University, appointed as chair to replace Jan H. Kiger, formerly at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, no longer at an NCAA institution.

Men's and Women's Golf: William C. "Todd" Turner, now director of athletics at Vanderbilt University instead of North Carolina State University.

Women's Gymnastics Committee: Pat Panichas, Southern Connecticut State University, appointed as chair, effective September 1, 1996, to succeed Cheryl L. Levick, whose term expires.

Men's Ice Hockey Rules Committee: Robert A. DeFelice, Bentley College, appointed to the Division II position on the committee that was added by the Council's adoption of noncontroversial legislation.

Division I Men's Ice Hockey Committee: William R. Wilkinson, Western Michigan University, appointed to replace Michael Kasavana, Michigan State University, resigned from the committee.

Divisions II and III Men's Ice Hockey Committee: James E. Harris, University of Alabama, Huntsville, appointed effective September 1, 1996, to replace Don J. Amiot, Mankato State University, resigned.

Terrence P. Skrypek, University of St. Thomas (Minnesota), appointed effective September 1, 1996, to replace Nathaniel C. "Whitey" Aus, St. Olaf College, declined appointment

Women's Soccer Committee: Amy E. Hackett, now associate director of athletics/senior woman administrator, University of Utah, instead of Santa Clara University.

Division I Women's Softball Committee: Robyn R. Sharp, Oregon State University, appointed effective September 1, 1996, to replace Judith M. Brame, California State University, Northridge, whose institution becomes a member of the Big West Conference, already represented on the committee.

Men's and Women's Tennis Committee: Matt Anger, University of Washington, appointed to replace David Kent, Texas A&M University, resigned from the committee.

Division I Women's Volleyball Committee: Brenda R. Weare, Conference USA, appointed effective September 1, 1996, to replace Martha Hawthorne, Rice University, resigned from the committee.

Division III Women's Volleyball: Tina L. Hill, Elizabethtown College, appointed to replace Lawrence R. Bock, Juniata College, resigned.

Special committees

Special Degree-Completion Program Committee: Lee A. McElroy, now director of athletics at American University instead of California State University, Sacramento.

Special Committee to Review Contest Exemptions: Dissolved because assignments have been completed.

Special Committee to Review Initial-Eligibility Standards: Dissolved because assignments have been completed.

Special Committee to Study Division II Athletics Certification: Dissolved because assignments have been completed.

Subcommittees

Council Subcommittee on Initial-Eligibility Waivers: Arthur Cooper, North Carolina State University; Carl M. Dunn, California State University, Los Angeles; and Edward I. "Ted" Leland, Stanford University, added to the committee effective immediately.
