Two coaches reprimanded by Division II Men's Basketball Committee
The NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Committee has reprimanded two basketball coaches whose teams appeared in the 1996 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship.
Florida Southern University head coach Gordon Gibbons was reprimanded for improper conduct that took place in Florida Southern's game against Columbus College March 8. Gibbons was ejected from the game for arguing with an official after being warned against doing so.
The committee also reprimanded Greg Wilson, an assistant coach at the University of South Carolina at Spartanburg, for improper conduct during the tournament.
The incident involving Wilson took place in South Carolina-Spartanburg's game against Alabama A&M University March 8. Wilson was ejected from the game for making an improper gesture to the referee after being warned against doing so.
The committee reviewed both cases during its March 23-26 meetings at the Elite Eight and concluded that they met the NCAA's official definition of misconduct. Based on the findings of that hearing, the committee has issued the reprimands.
Neither coach appealed the decisions.
