Youngstown State selects swimming coach

Kristie Stacy, a 25-time all-American swimmer at tradition-rich Kenyon and most recently head men's and women's swimming and diving coach at Baldwin-Wallace, has been hired to develop a women's swimming program at Youngstown State.

A two-time individual Division III champion at Kenyon, Stacy also was a member of 13 national-champion relay teams. She was Kenyon's NCAA Woman of the Year nominee in 1992.

The first intercollegiate swimming competition for the Lady Penguins is scheduled for the 1996-97 academic year.

CORRECTIONS

A story in the May 13 issue of The NCAA News incorrectly described the portions of a student-athlete's grant-in-aid package that are taxable. For a United States citizen, tax liability applies to gross income in excess of $6,400 (in 1995), plus the actual value of room and board (tuition, fees and books are not taxable). The minimum tax rate of 15 percent then would apply. Every foreign student-athlete is expected to file a tax return, and liability applies to gross income in excess of the personal exemption of $2,500 (in 1995), plus the actual value of room and board, as well as an additional exception/deduction afforded some countries through special agreements. The Internal Revenue Service expects institutions to withhold 14 percent of any taxable amount received by a foreign student-athlete.

A story on a meeting of the NCAA Basketball Officiating Committee in the May 20 issue of The NCAA News reported the wrong date for a meeting where Divisions II and III basketball-playing conferences will be invited to send a representative to review officiating matters. The meeting will be September 14.

A story on a meeting of the NCAA Wrestling Committee in the April 29 issue of the News failed to specify that regional allocations for the 1997 Division II Wrestling Championships are provisional, pending determination of sponsorship of the sport by Division II institutions in late September. The provisional allocations are: East region 22, Midwest 27, North Central 36, West 35 and South 20. A change in the number of institutions sponsoring the sport could result in revised allocations.
