National champion places three on water polo academic squad

Three members of UCLA's 1995 National Collegiate Men's Water Polo Championship team are among the individuals named to the 1995-96 American Water Polo Coaches Association all-academic team.

Thomas Wong, Steve Covec and Mark Sutter, a 1995 first-team all-tournament selection, are among 74 individuals named to the team. Wong, Covec and Sutter registered grade-point averages (4.000 scale) of 3.500, 3.200 and 3.200, respectively.

The all-academic team includes student-athletes who compiled at least a 3.200 GPA.

Santa Clara placed the most individuals on the team with six. Occidental, St. Francis (New York) and Villanova each placed five individuals on the team.

Charles Wykoff of MIT is the only team member to post a 4.000 GPA.
