Forty-six more summer basketball leagues are certified



National Collegiate Athletic Association

Another 46 summer basketball leagues have been certified by the Association for 1996 competition, bringing the total to 76.

The most recently certified leagues include 24 for men, 10 for women, and 12 combining men's and women's competition.

Student-athletes from NCAA member institutions participate each summer in hundreds of leagues certified in accordance with NCAA Bylaws 14.7.5.2 and 30.14.

Questions about the application process or requirements for NCAA certification of summer leagues should be directed to David J. Thurkill, NCAA legislative assistant, at the national office.

Following are the leagues approved most recently for participation.

Men's

California -- Drake Summer League, San Anselmo; San Diego Summer Collegiate Basketball League, San Diego.

Connecticut -- Wallingford Boys & Girls Club, Wallingford.

District of Columbia -- Nike "Jabbo" Kenner Memorial Summer League.

Florida -- Orlando Pro-Am, Orlando; Walker/Ford Community Center Summer League "96," Tallahassee.

Illinois -- East Central Illinois Community Action Agency, Danville; Men's Open Basketball League, Belleville.

Indiana -- Indy Parks/ELH Enterprises, Indianapolis.

Kansas -- Summer Metro Basketball League, Kansas City.

Kentucky -- Mike Case and Nettie Chambers Summer League, Maysville.

North Carolina -- Wilmington's 7th Annual Summer Basketball Classic, Wilmington.

New York -- Rockville Centre Summer Basketball League, Long Island.

Ohio -- Tron Jenkins Barberton Summer League, Barberton; Edison Community College Summer League, Piqua; Clark County Summer League, Springfield.

Pennsylvania -- Central Blair Recreation & Park Commission Men's Summer Basketball League, Altoona; Lawrence Park Summer Basketball League, Erie; George "Dew" Brown Summer League, Pittsburgh; 11th & Pike Summer Basketball League, Reading; West Reading Summer Basketball League, West Reading.

Tennessee -- Park Commission Bluff City Classic, Memphis; Southern Sports Medicine Summer League (formerly Music City Summer League), Nashville.

Wisconsin -- Oshkosh North High School/College Basketball League, Oshkosh.
